Fuse at George Mason University is a 345,000 sq. ft. education building that houses 24 specialty labs, offices, classrooms, retail, and event spaces in Arlington, Virginia. The goal of this building was to have a Main Street feel, encouraging students and industry professionals to mix.

The Garden Roof® and Ultimate Assembly® were used to implement sustainable design practices and water retention across the rooftop and multiple amenity deck levels. The natural plant species and pollinators increase biodiversity, while Hydrotech® LiteTop® Growing Media acts like a sponge during rain events to retain water so less is going back into the stormwater system. The vegetated roof and light surfaces of the protected membrane roof help to combat the urban heat island effect and set a new standard for urban sustainability.
